Born in Milan in 1965, Tony Arco began studying the instrument at the age of thirteen under the guidance of Maestro Lucchini. At sixteen he met Tullio De Piscopo with whom he established a deep bond of friendship that still exists today, and with which he will study until the age of twenty. The first professional experiences begin around the age of eighteen with various local groups, but the first important jazz engagement will be with the pianist Piero Bassini with whom he will often play at the “Capolinea” in Milan.
Other collaborations of that period include Sergio Fanni, Mario Rusca (with whom he still collaborates), but above all a character who will prove to be fundamental for his training as a jazz player, the great American clarinetist Tony Scott with whom Arco will play for a long time in Italy and abroad. In 1988, now fully integrated into the professional world, Arco (moved by an innate intellectual curiosity) nevertheless decided to abandon everything and leave for the United States where he will live for almost five years and where he will study with Gary Chaffee, Bob Moses and Alan Dawson.
In 1990 he became the drummer of the legendary “Wally’s Jazz Club” in Boston where he plays in the groups of Roy Hargrove and Antonio Hart and with many other American musicians including John Medesky and George Garzone.
Concert collaborations include among others Mark Murphy, Bobby Watson, Kenny Barron, Charles Tolliver, Tony Scott, Dave Liebman, James Newton, Carl Anderson, Enrico Pieranunzi, Franco D’Andrea, Enrico Rava, Paolo Fresu, Franco Ambrosetti, Roberta Gambarini , Rachel Gould, Sarah Jane Morris, Bob Mover, Irio De Paula, Marcus Stockhausen, Gianluigi Trovesi, David Murray, Eddie Daniels, Luigi Bonafede, Joe Diorio, John Mosca, Evan Parker, Billy Cobham, Airto Moreira, Phil Markovitz, James Cammack , Sonny Fortune, Jesse Davis, Rob Sudduth, Andrew Hill, Garrison Fewell, Red Holloway, Joe Fonda, Emil Richards, Bob Mintzer, Kenny Wheeler, Nnenna Freelon, Pat LaBarbera, Albert and Jimmy Heath.
